When I went back to work, pumping was a bit of a hassle and due to my schedule was somewhat inconsistent, so as a result, my supply dropped. And kept dropping, despite my best efforts to keep it up: fenugreek, oatmeal, extra pumping/nursing sessions, plenty of water, plenty of calories, etc.
So, eventually, we dropped back to nursing only in the morning and at nite, and that worked pretty well for a month or so, but not enough to even keep my supply up during those times.
I have such mixed feelings about having to stop nursing...sad because I really wanted to make it to one year, and sad because in some ways it seems as tho Zachary doesn't need me *quite* as much as he once did (I know this will only get truer as time goes by)... But I do feel good that we were able to make it more than nine months--especially given the rough start we had. I wasn't sure we'd make it 9 DAYS at times. And I feel good that Zach is taking formula well, and has been used to taking a bottle some in the evenings for a couple of weeks, so he doesn't seem to be traumatized by not nursing.
It was wonderful while it lasted. And I'm so grateful for the experience.
Zach has been taking a low dose antibiotic for the past 10 days to fight his recurring ear infections, and tonite, we discovered a rash on his belly that looked quite similar to the one he got when he had the reaction to the amoxicillin. So we called the hospital help line and were told that he probably needed to be seen tonite...read: emergency room. Chris called Dr. T's office to see if he could get some word from Dr. T as to whether we should take him in, and tho he didn't speak to Dr. T, got word from one of the other docs that unless Zach has respiratory distress, the rash can wait till morning.
So, we have another appointment for Zach to see if he's having a reaction to this antibiotic...
I think this child has been to the doctor more in his first 9 months of life than I have been in the last 10 years! We'll keep you posted on what we find out.
5.01.05 Steps that is...with assistance! And his newest trick is holding on to your fingers and pulling himself up. What a smart, wonderful boy we have!
4.30.05 Kayla is our new friend! I met her mom online on a message board for babies born in July 2004, and today we got to meet at the park for the first time. We hope to do it again soon!
So we took Z to the ENT today, and the good news is: his ears are totally clear.
The bad news is: his ears are totally clear.
So I don't know why we have suddenly started having bad nites again... I have to say, I'm both relieved that we're not looking at any sort of surgical intervention at this point, but disappointed because I wanted to know that there was a CAUSE for these sleepless nites. Other than "fussy baby."
I guess we just wait to see what tonite holds for us...
Rough nite last nite with Zach...after several good nites of sleep, the last two have been markedly worse--with last nite being REALLY bad, so I called Dr. T's office this morning to see if they wanted to rule out ear infection.
Instead, what we got was an appointment with an ENT tomorrow morning, and instructions to discontinue the antibiotics until after he's seen. Dang. It looks like we might be headed for tubes. Poor baby.
We have a new sound...and boy is he proud of it!! He laid in his crib for 30 minutes this evening after I put him down, saying it over and over and over and over and...
