Fun with Gus

6.22.05
Tho Gus might not agree...he's just innocently
trying to get some sleep.
But he just has all these *interesting* parts!

And more fun shots...

6.22.05
"I'm talkin' to you!"

He spots Gus resting and sees his chance to strike...

Oh...but what's over there?

Myringotomy

That's what Zach's surgery is called.

And here is more information about it than you ever wanted to know...warning, there are some graphic pictures...but hey, it's what was done to my son this morning, so you might as well look, right? And it really is kind of interesting...

But a few hours later...

6.20.05
...Zachary was feeling spry enough to try out his new pool!
And he had a wonderful time!

Recovery Bug

6.20.05
Doesn't he look a little miserable?

I just came across these...

September 2004
...and they were way too cute not to share

Silly Animals

They don't really mind Zachary too much, but
they sure love the gear that came along with him!

Saucy!

6.17.05
He LOVES chicken parmesan...without the parmesan

How much do I love this face??

Recovery

For both of us.

Zachary did fine in surgery, recovery was a little rough as he came out of the anesthesia, but they had told us it might happen so we weren't too surprised.

What I WAS surprised about was my almost passing out in recovery. Dr. M came out to talk to us, notices how I look, and says, "This woman is having a vagal response...she's pale and sweating...don't let her pass out." I was feeling pretty awful, and Chris says I was the color of putty (not my best color), so of course, the nurses all fussed over me and I was hugely embarrassed.

But we're both doing fine right now.

Anxious

So...in 10 hours, we will be entering the surgery center for Zach's tubes...and I am feeling very anxious about the whole thing. I know it's a pretty routine thing, and there's really nothing to be worried about, but really, what kind of mother would I be if I didn't worry? A tv sitcom mom, I guess.

In preparation for his surgery, Zachary took his first (hopefully ONLY, but I'm not THAT naive) header off the changing table... Well, ok, the two events are not at all linked, but I had no other way to make the transition. :) Anyway, it was the oh-so-common "I turned for just a moment" event, where I turned back just in time to see him flipping in sssssslllllooooowwwww motion onto the floor. Luckily, he landed pretty much flat on his back, and didn't seem to be injured at all (I think I cried more than he did)...but man, was it scary.

I guess I'm not getting that Mom of the Year award after all.

Fun with Adrian

Isn't he a doll?

Cracks me up

Another new trick of Zachary's is to cry while he sticks his tongue out...so the sound that comes out is about the funniest you've ever heard. Try it for yourself: stick your tongue out in a point (the pointier, the better) touching both your top and bottom lips (see this for reference) and whine or cry...it's hilarious.

Somehow, I don't think that's the effect he's going for, however.

6.16.2005

My how he's changed...

7.22.04
Just minutes old...

6.07.05
...to 10 months, 3 weeks old...

Heartbreaker

6.15.05
Notice the bruise on his forehead...the first of many, I'm sure

Another trick...

Zachary has figured out how to put the shapes from his shape sorter into the bucket!

Ok, so he's not fitting the shapes thru the holes in the lid, he's just placing them in the open bucket, but he does it on command (before he would just take out the ones that were in the bucket).

Next, we'll start working on the stacker, or maybe even fitting the shapes thru the holes.

It's so exciting! :)

6.15.2005

First dirt. YUM.

6.15.05
Today, Zachary discovered a pot of dirt on the deck
during one of our yard excursions

Being the fab mom I am, I encouraged him to
explore it all he wanted to

He carefully examined the dirt
(after dumping several handfuls into his lap...
you can see where this is going, can't you?)

Right into the mouth.
Potting soil.
Of course, I have to snap the pic before I intervene...
maybe I'm NOT such a fab mom....

The aftermath...
But, dang, isn't he cute?

Dat Tat Tot

These are Zach's first "words"...at least, I think they're words. He says them over and over and over and over, in random order, not really attributing a specific word to a specific thing as far as I can tell....it is so cute. He has also said "Dada" but not in a meaningful way--yet. Not even close to saying "Mama" tho I coach him daily.

He has also started to approximate waving by bending his fingers to close his fist...mostly at random times now, but he's getting it...

One of his favorite pass times is now to "walk" around the backyard, holding on to my fingers. He loves to go where he wants to, and to look at and touch everything he can. I love doing it with him, but my back doesn't love it quite so much. For those of you who don't know, he's a little on the vertically-challenged side (we're avoiding the word "short")....

I'm so glad he's here!

6.14.2005

Tubes

Next Monday, 7 AM.

I have really mixed feelings about it...sad because little Z will have to be anesthetized and have his eardrums CUT, but glad if it will prevent any further sickness. Dr. M said that statistically, tubes will decrease the frequency of his ear infections, but will not necessarily stop them altogether. However, if Zach were to get another ear infection while he has the tubes, it would not cause him any pain, so that is good.

The bad thing is that the tubes will then come out around Christmas, which of course, is the HEIGHT of ear infection season.

6.13.2005

New Fun!!!

6.12.05
Zachary has discovered the joy found in the dogs' water
bowl...and tho I probably should have stopped him,
he was having too much fun for me to ruin it.

The aftermath.
When he was done, there was FAR more water
on the floor than in the bowl.

6.10.2005

New tricks...

So, Zach's latest tricks:

- taking a drink of water and letting the last of the water dribble out of his mouth. This is sometimes accompanied by a "raspberry" for full effect.

- climbing up the entertainment center (DADDY!) while holding on to daddy's fingers...they couldn't wait to show me this trick today!

- finding something he is interested in, and when I take him closer to look, hanging on to it for dear life. The other day we spent 15 minutes standing in the kitchen clinging to the hanging fruit basket, occasionally poking the kiwis (fruit, not New Zealanders) living there. Finally, I had to pry him off to save my arm...much screaming ensued (his, not mine).

- "dancing" wildly when his favorite songs come on (like "Philadelphia Chickens" or "The Crab Song" --off of WONDERFUL Sandra Boynton CDs I can't praise enough)...wish I could post video here of this--it's too cute for words.

- of course, the grinding of the teeth.

He cracks me up every day. I'm so glad he's in my life. :)

Overwhelming

That is the size of the love I feel for this little man in my life...

I just went in to cover him up for the nite, and my breath was taken away unexpectedly by the rush of love I felt as I pulled the blanket up over his perfect little body.

What an amazing gift we have been given.

My first animation!

I made some "souped up rice"
for Zachary and he LOVED it...
the animation is only slightly faster
than he was actually eating it!
(sorry the picture is so small...I'm still trying to work out the bugs,
but not bad for a first attempt, huh?)

I love this picture...

or maybe it's just the subject.

Yummy!

6.5.05
Zachary had his first pasta dinner
and it was a huge success...we all
came away from it covered in sauce, but
smiling and full!

6.05.2005

Chris' goofy cat

6.4.05
She's definitely an opportunist...
Which reminds me, we have several cute pictures of the
pets enjoying Zach's stuff...I'll have to post those.
By the way, Chris will vehemently deny that she
is his cat, but there is no doubt in my mind:
she's DEFINITELY his!

The good news

Well, Zachary seems to be feeling better, and has gotten over his diarrhea.

Know how I know this?

Tonite, as Chris would say, "he polluted the pool."

I'll leave you to think about that one. It wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't diarrhea.

I love limes!

6.2.05
I think it's hilarious that babies enjoy limes and lemons...
but they do.
At least, this one does.

6.03.2005

If it's not one thing...

it's six others.

NOW, Z has some atrocious diarrhea (is there any other kind?)...13 poopy diapers since he woke up this morning, with 4 blowouts (one of which got me and MY pants)... His poor little bum. His appetite is still minimal, but he is drinking lots of water and tomorrow we'll get him some Pedialyte to help combat any dehydration.

When will things look up for him???

6.02.2005

We need a happy picture

5.22.05
After so much illness, we need to remember that
THIS is who our little boy is...
not the unhappy one that hasn't felt good for months...

SIXTH ear infection

And just since January! This poor child has been sick for more of his life than he's been healthy, for pete's sake!

And he's lost 11 ounces since he was last weighed at the doctor a few weeks ago.

So, he's back on antibiotics for 10 days and we go back to see the ENT (who is out of the office this week), on June 14th. Who knows where we go from there...?

6.01.2005

Grrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnd

That's the sound of Zach doing his newest trick: grinding together the 7 teeth he has. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard...only worse, because it's his TEETH! Ugg.

I do have to say tho, that his face is super cute when he does it, since he only has front teeth to grind together...

It's small consolation, however.
