So, I started out this Christmas season DETERMINED not to get a tree. I knew that being home with Zachary three days a week and fighting to keep him OUT of the tree would be a nightmare, so I put the kabosh on any holdiay tree. Chris was heartbroken.
Last week, we were talking about Christmas trees at work, and one of my co-workers had won a tree in a drawing, but she had no use for it as they were using an artificial tree, so she offered it to me, for Chris. She assured me it was small, so we went to pick it up after work that day. Long story short, it is the PRICKLIEST dang tree I have ever felt, and therefore a perfect tree for our family this year. Chris was delighted with the surprise, and Zachary gets a kick out of mommy touching the tree and saying "OUCH!" over and over again.
After a few days of just plain tree in the living room, Chris put some lights on it with Zach's help (I'll post pics), and Zachary thought that was just magical.
That nite, after he had his jammies on (Zach, not Chris), we turned out all the lights in the living room and turned on the tree, and Zachary went crazy with delight. He ran around in these crazy little circles, panting wildly, falling down and jumping right back up, for about 10 minutes. It was the funniest thing I had seen in a long time. But not nearly so funny as the next nite when we tried to get these antics on video. Zach ran around as expected, only he also bounced himself off of the couch several times. One time, he misjudged his distance to the couch, hit it a little off, and bounced right onto the floor (picture something out of America's Funniest Home Videos). He laid there for about 5 seconds, then got up laughing and panting again. It was hilarious. And we got it on video. DARK video, but video nonetheless.
So altho I was totally against a tree, and this tree is so $%#*(&@ prickly, we have definitely gotten our moneys' worth out of it, and some lovely memories to boot.
